Shades of White Color

As the color of purity and peace, white is a common color in nature.

That’s why many people design or decorate with white: it is an elegant and clean neutral that serves as the perfect backdrop for pops of color.

In color theory, a shade is a pure color mixed with black. Technically speaking, a shade of white would be a neutral gray only—an achromatic white where the values of red, green, and blue are equal.

Still, this article presents all shades of white that differ only slightly from true white, varying in hue and chroma, so chromatic shades of white, many of which are often called off-white colors. (Both warm whites and cool whites.)

In today’s article, we will talk about 99 shades of white color in today’s article, including their names, hex, RGB, and CMYK codes.

With these codes, designers and anyone who would like to use these white shades in their creations can easily pick the right color without hassle. Enjoy!

History of White

As one of the first colors used in art, white was used by artists between 18,000 and 17,000 years ago.

Many cultures considered it a sacred or somehow important color as it was associated with a goddess in ancient Egypt, sacred mother’s milk in Greece, and the purity of priestesses in ancient Rome.

Because of the latter meaning, many church interiors in Europe were predominantly white.

White was also the color used by morning widows for centuries until it became black in western societies. Nevertheless, many Asian cultures still wear white to mourn.
