Here’s everything you need to know about the beautiful pink pumpkins!
Nurturing and romantic, pink is a lovely color, but it isn’t your usual Halloween color.
While there are many pink things in nature, we don’t often see this color in pumpkin patches around America.
Still, you’ll want to join the movement and get this pumpkin color by the end of this article.
Let’s learn about the pink pumpkin meaning!
What Does the Pink Pumpkin Mean
Like the teal, blue, and purple pumpkins, the pink pumpkins are more than beautiful decor. They are meaningful ways of support to a noble cause and raise awareness.
That’s because the non-profit Pink Pumpkin Patch Foundation (PPPF) donates money to breast cancer research for every pink pumpkin sold.
It’s an excellent way to support a cure for it while decorating your porch with a Porcelain Doll F1 pink pumpkin and your table with a Porcelain Princess F1, a smaller but equally beautiful pumpkin.
How Did the Pink Pumpkin Idea Start
These are not artificial pumpkins you can buy at Etsy.
These are hybrid pumpkins bred to be pink by DP Seeds, LLC in 2012, and then the PPPF created the movement to raise money and awareness for the cause.
The color pink is incredibly positive and gives hope to a level where no obstacles are big enough. For instance, the pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness.
And because of such associations, Carol Froese, PPPF founder and cancer survivor, grow these colorful pumpkins. “Our pink pumpkins provide a fun and meaningful opportunity for people across the country to support breast cancer research,” Carol said, who won the battle with breast cancer herself.
Today, the foundation partners with about 50 farmers across America to grow these unique gourds every fall.
US pumpkin growers donate $0.25 to the foundation for every pink pumpkin sold, and Colorado Seeds donates $10 for every 1,000 seeds sold.
Oh, and mind you: these decorative pumpkins are also delicious and packed with vitamins!
Where Can You Find Pink Pumpkins
According to their website, you can find these pink pumpkins in specialty grocers in the USA and Canada, as well as farmer markets.
They also provide a map with the location of the pink pumpkin growers. All you have to do is click on the nearest icon to you, and it will show you the address.
What Can You Do
There is a number of things you can do to support the research and help the foundation raise awareness for breast cancer:
- Buy a pink pumpkin for your porch and table.
- Give a pink pumpkin to a dear friend — it will be a lovely surprise!
- Buy seeds, grow them at home, and donate $0.25 per pink pumpkin grown.
- Share this article on your socials!
- Make an online donation.
While this movement has developed quickly, it still has a lot of room for growth. That’s why we strongly encourage you to check it out and, if you can, support it.
Besides helping in the fight against cancer, you’ll have a unique Halloween decoration for your house!
